HOW TO START YOUR OWN MINIBAR AT HOME

Having your own bar at home is a must if you want to be a good host. However, maintaining a home bar need not be as complicated as the set-up in commercial bars and restaurants. With a few basic liquors and easily available mixers you can maintain a delightful home bar.

Basic Requirements in Starting a Home Bar
  1. Liquors
  2. For your home bar to be called a bar, it is essential that you have al least three neutral spirits for mixed drinks and cocktails. The following would be ample enough to make a variety of cocktails:

    • El Hombre Tequila (Silver/Gold)
    • Toska Vodka
    • Britannia London Dry Gin

It is also important to have aged spirits such as brandies and whiskies for guests who prefer straight drinks. However, these can also be used in making cocktails.

    • Napoleon VSOP/Napoleon Quince Brandy
    • White Castle Five Years Old/White Castle 69 Whisky
  3. Mixers
  4. It is common for commercial bars and restaurants to have an assortment of mixers. Some of these are fairly hard to obtain in regular supermarkets. We suggest the following easy to find mixes:

    • assorted fruit juice concentrates
    • lime soda
    • cola
    • Orchid lime cordial
    • Orchid grenadine
    • refined white sugar/iodized fine salt
    • Rainforest Natural Mineral Water

If you know when to expect your guests, you can buy fresh supplies of garnishing such as:

    • oranges
    • limes
    • calamansi
    • maraschino cherries
  5. Supplies & Equipment
  6. Again we can forego the endless supplies found in commercial establishments. We can identify a few glassware materials for the home bar. These are the following:

    Whisky Glass or Tumbler

    Cocktail Glass

    White Wine Glass

    Liqueur Glass

    Brandy Glass

    Tall Glass

    Red Wine Glass

    Shot Glass

You should also maintain a stock of other basic supplies, such as:

    • stirrers
    • foldable straws
    • jigger
    • shaker
    • long handed spoon for mixing
